How to Cast-on, One Needle- Looped Cast On

One Needle Method of Casting-on- Looped Cast On

Hello Knitting Lovers…

Tillu had mastered the method of casting on with two needles- knitting on and Cable cast on, then with one needle single cast on and double cast on.

Today, Tillu will be learning the last method of cast on with one needle. She super excited, as Amma comes near her, she says,”Amma, I can’t wait lets start last method!”

Amma smiles and says,”Here we go Tillu. The third and last method of casting on with one needle is called Looped cast-on. This employs one needle and two yarn lengths; one yarn forms a foundation, the other is wrapped around it. Left intact, the edge is very flexible, especially suited to cotton yarns, which have limited elasticity. If the foundation yarn is removed, stitches can be picked up for knitting or grafting.”

Amma started illustrating, “Make slip knot in foundation yarn (light), then casting yarn(dark). Take foundation yarn over thumb, and casting yarn over index finger; grasp both yarn ends against palm. Wrap casting yarn around needle, front to back; foundation yarn around needle, back to front (yarns should cross as shown).”

She continued, “Wrap casting yarn around needle again, front to back. Pull downward so that yarns are under needle. Repeat steps for desired number of stitches.”
