How to Cast-on, Two Needles- Cable cast-on

How to cast on-Two Needles- cable cast on

Hello Knitting Lovers…

“Tillu”, Amma called again.

But Tillu was lost in her own world. She had just learnt the first method of casting on with two needles- knitting on and she was trying it again and again. She was really excited to see how the stitches were growing, initially when Amma taught her, she felt she would never get it; as she was just not getting how to keep yarn around the right needle and draw it through the loop. But she practiced and then slowly she got hold of it and now her stitches have got right tension also so when she spread them on the needle they looked beautiful with equal spacing between.

“Tillu”, Amma shook her hand, Tillu was looking at her needle with stitches on it. “AHH-HAN, she suddenly realized; she had lost for some time. Amma smiled and asked, “Shall we proceed with next method?”

“Ya, ya, sure”, Tillu replied looking at Amma with excitement to learn another method.

“OK! Look here”, Amma said, ” The next method is called as Cable cast-on and is produced  the same way as knitting on, but for each new stitch, the needle is inserted between the gap of two stitches. So the resulting edge is decorative and elastic. This method nicely suits to ribbing and attractive for the edges of socks or hats. Stitches should be knitted off through the loop fronts only.”

Amma started demonstrating her, “Make slip knot and cast the first stitch as in knitting on. For each new stitch after that, insert the right needle between the gap of two stitches; take yarn around the needle as for knitting (A) and then draw yarn through to form a new stitch, then transfer it to left needle (B). Continue forming new stitches between 2 loops.”

Tillu immediately understood the method and started casting on with this. She carefully looked at difference in the look by casting on both the methods.
