Hello Knitting Lovers…
Tillu is super excited today as she is going to start learning casting on with only one needle.
She has learnt the method of casting on with two needles- knitting on and Cable cast on.
Amma came and sat next to Tillu and started, “Tillu, the first method with one needle that I am gonna teach you is called as Single cast-on. This method is done with one needle and one length of yarn. It forms a delicate selvage that is particularly good for a hem edge or for lace. This is a very easy cast-on method, but somewhat difficult to work off the needle evenly in the first row. For a beginner, the double cast-on is easier to control.”
Amma started illustration, “Make slip knot on needle held in the left hand. Wrap yarn from the ball around right thumb (as shown), then grasp yarn firmly between the palm and back fingers. Turn thumb so the back of it is facing you; insert needle front to back through the loop that is formed by twisting the thumb.”
She continued, “Slip thumb out of loop, at the same time pulling yarn downward to close the loop around the needle. Repeat to form desired number of stitches.”
The other methods of casting-on are here-
