I know, somehow Knitting feels intimidating to crocheters and definitely it is time consuming. If you are one of them, then this post is absolutely for you.
The crochet stitch which gives knit like effect is called as Waistcoat Stitch.
How to Crochet Beautiful Knit like Stitch- Waistcoat Stitch:
The Waistcoat stitch is easy to work in rounds i.e. you are facing only one side of fabric and there is no turn, but, it is bit tricky if you want this stitch on flat fabric.
I wanted to use this Waistcoat stitch to make a wall hanging which is obviously a flat fabric. I brainstorm and tried many ways and came up with this technique. This technique not only solved my problem but it also gave me fringes on both sides of wall hanging. I am going to show you how to make this stitch with that technique so in this one post you can learn how to make this stitch also learn a technique how to use it to make flat fabric.
The trick here is like each row is worked from right to left, leaving the tail ends on sides which gives fringe.
Step 1: Make the desired number of chains, keep tail yarn and cut the yarn.
Step 2: Insert hook in first chain and draw a loop, keeping required tail yarn. Draw both working and tail yarn from loop, pull out tail yarn so it forms a knot and the end is secured. Make chain 1.
Start making single crochet in each chain. Leave tail yarn and cut the yarn.
Step 3: Again go to right side and insert hook in first stitch, draw a loop, keeping required tail yarn. Draw both working and tail yarn from loop, pull out tail yarn so it forms a knot and the end is secured. Make chain 1.
Step 4: If you notice, you can see 2 vertical strands for each single crochet. (Marked with yellow in pic below)
The Waistcoat stitch is worked in between those two strands. So insert hook in between the first stitch of below row and make single crochet.
Keep the working tension little loose (working tension means, keeping single crochet little looser than you normally do).
Complete the row similarly.
Repeat Step 3 and 4 to get desired number of rows. This is the Waistcoat stitch. Look the fabric looks like knitted one!
