Hello Crochet Lovers…
Today, I am gonna share crocheting another basic geometric shape- Square. As you have learnt the basic of crocheting geometric shapes worked in rounds and how to crochet circle, this will be the next step to that.
NOTE: This example is in double crochet but any stitch is suitable.
How to Crochet Square- Crocheting Geometric shapes worked in rounds
For Square, we need to start with a ring. The important thing here is that the number of stitches in Round 1 should be divisible by four. Here the increase happens at the corners (or also called as angles) of the square. To make it clear, I have used different color yarn for the corners in the illustration below. Generally the corners are formed with the pair of two, three or four stitches with one or two chains between them, in the next round; the pair is crocheted in this chain.
Crochet Abbreviations/Terminology here.
Example:
Ch 6 and join in a ring with sl st
Round 1: ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 1, (3 dc in ring, ch 1) 3 times, sl st in top of beg ch (total 12 sts)
Round 2: ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts*, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in last ch sp, sl st in top of beg ch (28 sts) I have used different color yarn to highlight the corners
Round 3: ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts*, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in last ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, sl st in top of beg ch (44 sts)
Round 4: ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 6 sts, *(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 11 sts*, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in last ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, sl st in top of beg ch (60 sts)
To continue, work evenly along each side and put (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the ch sp at each corner, that is increasing 16 sts on each round.
I hope this makes it clear but for any doubt please leave a comment below or drop an email.
