Double Crochet Stitch with step by step photos and video tutorial. Double Crochet Stitch (dc); is twice as tall as single crochet and it is less compact. This stitch is basis of many pattern stitches.

Step 1: Wrap yarn around the hook and insert it in 4th chain from the hook.
Step 2: Catch the yarn and draw a loop through the chain- now we have 3 loops on the hook. Wrap yarn around the hook and draw loop through first 2 loops on the hook; thus leaving 2 loops on the hook. Again wrap yarn around the hook and draw loop through remaining 2 loops on the hook. This completes double crochet stitch.
Generally one stitch is made in each chain across the row. After last stitch make chain 3 and turn the work.
Then wrap yarn around hook and insert hook in 2nd stitch and make double crochet. That begins the second row of the work.
Note: 3 Chains at the beginning of each row are considered as a first stitch in double crochet so always insert hook in 2nd stitch and begin the row.
