How to crochet easy summer Baby Sandals

I am back with yet another very easy and super cute project- Summer baby sandals. These crochet baby sandals have dual color soles which not only give very elegant look to the booties but also give extra soft cushion to those tiny feet.

In this post, I am showing you the pattern for the smallest size, i.e. Newborn to 3 months old baby with step-by-step photos and video tutorial HERE! These sandals can be a perfect gift on your friend’s baby shower or first visit to newborn.

I just loved them when I put them on our little princess, hope you will enjoy making them too!

How to Crochet easy summer Baby Sandals-

The pattern below is given for 1^st size, i.e. New born-3 months old baby.

Abbreviations used:

Ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

dc2tog – double crochet 2 together

sc3tog – single crochet 3 together

Sl st – slip stitch

Gauge:

The conventional gauge checking method does not help for shoe making because the size of sole is very important.

So, my advice here is to stick to same hook and type of yarn, make a sole, check the size and then proceed with pattern. If your sole size is smaller then go one size up in hook or if sole is bigger then go down by one size, in that way you will not change the stitch count.

Finished Size :

The pattern below is given for 1^st size, i.e. New born-3 months old baby.

Sole length – 3.5″ or 9.0 cm

Sole width – 2.25″ or 5.5cm

Lion Brand’s 24×7 cotton yarn- off white color, Ecru- 98

Lion Brand’s 24×7 cotton yarn- Pink color, Pink Rose- 101

Clover Crochet hook- Size C, 2.75 mm

Description:

Start with Pink color yarn. Make Ch 14.
R1: Starting from 4th ch, 1 dc in 10 ch, 6 dc in last ch, rotate and start working on other side of foundation ch, 1 dc 9 ch, 2 dc in last ch. Sl st in first st. [14 sts on either side of foundation ch x 2 = 28 sts]

R2: Ch 1 <this ch is not considered as st>, 2 sc in first & second st, 1 sc in 5 sts, 1 hdc, 1 dc in 3 sts, 2 dc in 6 sts, 1 dc in 3 sts, 1 hdc, 1 sc in 5 sts, 2 sc in last 2 sts. Sl st in first st. [19 x 2 = 38 sts]
R3: Ch 3, 1 dc in first & second st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in 10 sts, *2 dc in next, 1 dc in next* 3 times, insert stitch marker, *1 dc in next, 2 dc in next* 3 times, 1 dc in 10 sts, 2 dc in next, 1 dc in next & 2 dc in last st. Sl st in first st. [24 x 2 = 48 sts]

Cut the yarn. This completes one sole. Make 2 soles with pink color yarn and 2 with off white color.

Connecting soles together-

Take one of the off-white soles and one of the pink soles, place them back to back so that their right sides are facing out. Now take out a stitch marker from one of the soles and connect both soles with one stitch marker. (Be careful to connect them at right stitch)

Take pink color yarn, keep off-white sole facing toward you and start making slip stitch through both the soles, as shown in the pics below. So that both the soles will get connected.

You can leave sole’s tail ends, between the soles, so they will be secured and hidden, no need to sew 😊. Continue slip stitching around the sole.

This completes one sole. Leave 2”-3” tail yarn for finishing, which we will do after finishing strap. Don’t remove the stitch marker.

Front Strap-

Leave 6 sts on left of stitch marker.

Insert hook in between 6^th and 7^th st of off-white sole and take it out from the space between 7^th and 8^th st, i.e. inserting hook under 7^th st and working around it. Make Sl st around 7^th st.

Make ch 12, leave 6 sts on right side of stitch marker and connect with Sl st around 7^th st.

Sl sts around 8^th and 9^th st.

Make 1 dc in each ch [12 sts]. Sk 8^th st on left side and Sl st around 9^th st, this will connect strap to sole.

Sl st around 10^th and 11^th st. Make 1 hdc in each st [12 sts].

Sk 10^th st on right side and Sl st in 11^th st. Cut the yarn and sew tail end.

This completes the front strap of the sandal.

Finishing slip stitch-

As we have finished the front strap, we don’t need to keep stitch marker any more so let’s finish the slip stitch.

Take out stitch marker, insert the tail yarn in yarn needle. Insert needle under both the loops of first slip stitch (it looks like this ‘>’), pull out the needle. Insert it back in the center of last sip stitch (from where the tail yarn was out), pull it out from other side of sole.

Take out the needle and hide the tail yarn in between the soles.

Till this point both left and right sandals are identical so make one more sandal up to this level.

Right sandal-

Leave 2sts from front strap on right side of the sole, insert hook under 3^rd st and draw pink color yarn out.

R1: Make ch 1. Starting from next st, make 1 hdc around each st. [22 sts including 1^st ch], we should be left with 2 sts from strap.

R2: Ch 2, start from 2^nd st, 1 dc each in 7 sts, dc2tog, 1 dc each in 2 sts, dc2tog, 1 dc each in 6 sts, dc2tog in last 2sts. (18 sts, ch 2 is not considered as st).

R3: Ch 2, start from 2^nd st, 1 dc each in 15 sts, dc2tog in last 2 sts. (16 sts, ch 2 is not considered as st). Ch 6, 1 sc in center of front strap, ch 6. Insert hook in 1^st st and Sl st with off-white yarn. Don’t cut the pink yarn.

R4: Ch 1, start from 1^st st, 1 hdc each in 16 sts, 1 sc each in 5 ch, sc3tog (1in ch, 1 in sc below, again 1 in ch on other side), 1 sc each in 5ch. Insert hook in 1^st st and Sl st with pink yarn. Cut the off-white yarn.

R5: Ch 1, start from 1^st st, 1 hdc each in 16 sts, ch 15, starting from 3^rd ch, 1 hdc each in 13 ch, Sl st at bottom of 1^st st. Cut the yarn.

This completes Right sandal.

Left sandal-

All the steps for Left sandal are similar to the Right sandal, only difference is, we need to start from left side. So, leave 2sts from front strap on left side of the sole, insert hook under 3^rd st and draw pink color yarn out.

This completes Left sandal.

Sew all tail ends and connect press buttons with tailor thread of similar pink shade.
