As you know my angel loves the stuff made by her mama for her. These are some of her pics with her warm cowl. I love so see them. 🙂
This cowl is easy to make but you need to have little crochet practice. The flower pattern which is used to make this cowl demands little light hand while crocheting. You need to understand how to keep proper and uniform tension through out the row.

Abbreviations used:
dc3tog – double crochet 3 together
Gauge:
5 dc = 1″ or 2.5 cm
3 dc rows = 1″ or 2.5 cm
Note: Check your gauge before starting the project to get perfect fit, you can check video here.
Finished Size :
Clear diameter – 40 cm
Total Length – 50 cm
Note: It is always advisable to take baby’s head measurement for whom you are making the cowl. If you are making it as a gift for someone or to sell on your store then grab this standard chart from our resource library.
Pattern Grading:
If you want reduce or increase the size of finished cowl then follow these instructions-
- Increase or decrease number chains at the start to get desired cowl size but keep total number of chains to multiples of 3 + 1 ch.
- Remember to add extra chains for extension of bow.
Material:
Any Color 4 ply yarn– almost 100 gm (depending on your size)
Description:
Make chain 103.
R1: Insert hook in 4th ch and make 1 dc in each ch (101 sts). Turn the work.
R2: Ch 3, 1 dc in next st, * ch 1, sk 1, 1 dc in next st *, repeat * to * until last 2 sts, 1dc each in next 2 sts. Turn the work.
R3: Ch 2, 1 hdc in each st (101 sts). Turn the work.
Note: Next row should be worked only in the back loop.
R4: Ch 3, 1 dc in next st, sk 1, ch 1, start with pattern- Flower Row (right side) from Flower Pattern with Double-crochet-together, repeat until last but 3 sts, sk 1, ch 1, 1 dc each in next 2 sts. Turn the work.
You will have 31 horizontal & 32 vertical petals.
R5: Ch 3, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, repeat * to * from Flower Row (wrong side) of the same Flower Pattern with Double-crochet-together, until last but 2 sts, ch 1, 1 dc each in next 2 sts. Turn the work.
R6: Same as R2. (Chain space row)
This completes one pattern.
Repeat R1 to R6 one more time and then crochet last row with 1 dc in each st (R1).
Edging:
Rotate the work 90 degrees so that you can start working on the smaller side of the cowl.
Scallop: Ch 1, *1 sc, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st in dc, 1 dc*, repeat * to * till end.
Adjust the stitches so that scallop pattern ends with cowl end.
Cut the yarn and sew in the end.
Bow band:
Make Ch 9. Insert hook in 4th ch and make 1 dc in each ch (7 sts). Turn the work.
Ch 3, 1 dc each next st (7 sts), turn the work. Repeat this row 7 times, so total 9 rows of dc. Don’t cut the yarn, we will need it to fix band around cowl.
Assembling: (I highly recommend to watch video to understand this portion)
Place the cowl in such a way that the decorative edge overlaps the other end by almost 10 cm. Check the clear cowl diameter, it should be 40 cm, adjust the extension to get that.
Now fan fold the overlapped portion maintaining almost 2 rows in each fold. Carefully sew these overlaps with Tapestry needle maintaining the folds.
Now wrap the bow band around this connection and connect ends with slip stitch at the back.
Fix a decorative button in center and your spectacular crochet cowl for baby is ready! 🙂

Hi,
May I know exactly which term is not clear in Row 4?
I have one separate post and video tutorial explaining this pattern, check it out here- http://creativelymadeinhome.com/crochet/patterns/flower-pattern-double-crochet-together/
Hope this will help to clarify your doubt.
I do not understand the 4th row . your video pattern is very different from the written page. I do not understand the flower pattern.
