Hello Knitting Lovers…
Tillu had mastered the method of casting on with two needles- knitting on and Cable cast on, then with one needle single cast on. And it was time for next method that is double cast on.
Amma started telling, “Tillu, Double cast-on employs one needle and a double length of the yarn; in this method you can allow 1 inch of yarn per stitch and start measuring distance from the yarn end. With this method we get firm, yet elastic selvage. This method is suitable for any pattern that does not require a delicate edge. It is especially recommended for beginners, since no experience is needed.”
Amma started illustrating, “Tillu, make slip knot a measured distance from yarn end (i.e. start measuring distance from the yarn end, allowing 1 inch of yarn per stitch), wrap short end over left thumb, yarn from ball over left index finger; hold both ends between palm and back fingers. Then, slip needle up through the thumb loop, then scoop yarn from the index finger(see arrow) and draw a loop onto the needle.”
She continued, “Release thumb loop; tighten loop on the needle by drawing the short yarn forward with the thumb. Repeat steps for desired number of stitches.”
