Dual color Granny square free pattern
Dual color Granny square free pattern, is yet another modern pattern in Granny squares series. In previous post we have seen Granny square with Puff stitch. In today’s post we will learn a very attractive granny square made with 2 colors yarns; with step-by-step photos, instruction card (which includes chart diagram) and video tutorial.
This dual granny square looks good with two contrast colors yarns. I like to keep one color to white as it gives this granny square a very modern look. But you can use yarn colors of your choice.
You can even play with colors of rounds, as seen in photos below.

Abbreviations used:
ch sp – chain space
Gauge:
3 dc rounds = 1″ or 2.5 cm

Finished Size :
Granny square size – 5″x 5″ or 13 x13 cm
Tip :
- If you are comfortable then use chain-less double crochet to get a neater look. Consider Ch 3 as chain-less double crochet at the beginning of each round.
- Use standing double crochet trick while changing color to have seamless look.
Material:
Description:
Start with white color yarn. Make Ch 6, Sl st in 1st ch. This forms a loop.
R1: Ch 5, *1 dc in loop, ch 2* repeat * to * 6 times more, Sl st in 3rd ch of 5 chains at beginning. (8 sts, 8 ch sp)
R2: Sl st in first ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same ch sp, *ch 2, 4 dc in next ch sp* repeat * to* entire round, ch 2, Sl st in ch. ( 32 sts, 8 ch sp)
Cut white color yarn and sew in tail.
Connect pink color yarn in any ch sp.
R3: Ch 3, 5 dc in same ch sp, *6 dc in next ch sp, ch 2, 6 dc in next ch sp* repeat * to * entire round, 6 dc in last ch sp, ch 2, Sl st in ch. ( 48 sts, 4 ch sp)
Cut pink color yarn and sew in tail.
Connect white color yarn in any ch sp.
R4: Ch 3, 1 dc in same ch sp, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch sp * ch 2, 1 dc in between 3rd and 4th dc out of 6 dc of R3, ch 4, again 1 dc in between 3rd and 4th dc out of 6 dc of R3, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch sp, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch sp* repeat * to * entire round. Sl st in ch. (24 sts, 16 ch sp)
R5: Ch 3, 1 dc on next st, *2 dc in ch sp, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch sp, 1 dc each on next 2 sts, 2 dc in ch sp, 1 dc on st, 4 dc in ch sp, 1 dc on st, 2 dc in ch sp, 1 dc each on next 2 sts* repeat * to * entire round. Sl st in ch. (72 sts, 4 ch sp)
Cut white color yarn and sew in tail.
Connect pink color yarn in any ch sp.
R6: Ch 3, 1 dc in same ch sp, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch sp *1 dc each on 18 sts, 2 dc in ch sp, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch sp* repeat * to * entire round, Sl st in ch. (88 sts, 4 ch sp)
Cut pink color yarn and sew in tail.
Connect white color yarn in any ch sp.
R7: Ch 1, 1 sc in ch sp, ch 2, 2 sc in same ch sp, *1 sc each on 22 sts, 2 sc in ch sp, ch 2, 2 sc in same ch sp* repeat * to * entire round, Sl st in ch. (104 sts, 4 ch sp)
Cut white color yarn and sew in tail. This completes our beautiful Dual color Granny square.
